How Does Neurolens Help with Neck Strain?

Do you suffer from a stiff, aching neck? While short periods of neck pain are common, if it becomes a prolonged problem, you may need to look at treatments to help. Neurolens is widely considered to be the most effective treatment for a condition called binocular vision dysfunction, or BVD for short, that is associated with neck strain.

The way that our eyes work is very clever. We have two eyes, each of which sees a slightly different image. However, when the eyes are in alignment, the brain can take each image and combine them into the same plane to create one single clear picture. However, when the eyes aren’t in perfect alignment, the muscles around the eyes and the brain have to work much harder to try and create this image. This puts them under a great deal of strain and causes the symptoms that are associated with binocular vision dysfunction. One of these symptoms is neck strain.

How Does Binocular Vision Dysfunction Cause Neck Strain?

People who live with BVD subconsciously try and compensate for the misalignment of their eyes in several ways. One of the most common is tilting their head when they are visually concentrating. That’s because tilting their head alters the perception of their eyes and can make it easier for them to see clearly, while also reducing eye strain. However, when you spend a lot of the day engaged in visual concentration, such as using a computer, tilting your head for long periods can put excessive strain on the neck and shoulders, causing pain in both the neck and upper back. This neck position also alters the alignment of the spine, which can lead to further issues with back, neck, and shoulder pain.

How Do I Know If I Have Neck Strain?

Neck strain can cause people to experience a number of different symptoms, including:

  • Muscle stiffness

  • Muscle tightness

  • Muscle spasms

  • Problems or pain turning your head in certain directions

  • Pain that gets worse when your neck is in certain positions

  • Difficulty sleeping due to neck pain

If your neck strain is caused by binocular vision dysfunction, those symptoms are usually also accompanied by some of the others that are associated with BVD. These include:

  • Dizziness/feeling light-headed

  • Vertigo

  • Motion sickness

  • Persistent headaches/migraines

  • Anxiety/panic attacks

  • Blurred vision

  • Difficulty concentrating on reading because you are losing your place often or skipping words

  • Eye fatigue

If you have any of these symptoms, it’s important to make an appointment with your eye doctor to explain your concerns.

How Does Neurolens Help With Neck Strain Caused By BVD?

Although it can be tempting to take pain medications to alleviate the discomfort caused by neck strain, this really only masks the symptoms rather than treating the underlying cause of the problem. Neurolens targets and treats the underlying cause so that you can be pain-free even permanently.

Neurolens are the only lenses that contain microprism. This microprism is incorporated into lenses in small, bespoke amounts and work by altering the way that light is refracted by the eyes, bringing the two images seen by the eyes into the same plane of alignment. This helps the eyes to work in synchronization to create a single, clear image without causing excessive strain on the muscles of the eyes and the optic nerve. When this happens, patients who would usually tilt their head to compensate for the misalignment should find that they are less prone to doing so.

After a Neurolens prescription has been refined, it has been shown to reduce the symptoms associated with binocular vision dysfunction by up to 80%.
